Manufacturer: Bayer Schering Pharma
Pharmaceutical name: Clotrimazole Topical
Pack: 1 tube (1% (20g))
Canesten Cream is utilized for the treatment of skin infections including athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and various other fungal skin infections (candidiasis). Additionally, Canesten Cream addresses a skin condition known as pityriasis (tinea versicolor), which is a fungal infection that leads to lightening or darkening of the skin on the neck, chest, arms, or legs. It is classified as an azole antifungal, functioning by inhibiting the growth of fungus.

Apply Canesten Cream strictly to the skin. Ensure the affected area is clean and thoroughly dried before application. Typically, the cream should be applied to the affected skin twice daily or as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the specific type of infection. Avoid using it more frequently than directed, as this will not accelerate recovery but may heighten the risk of side effects. Apply enough cream to cover the affected area and some surrounding skin. After use, wash your hands. Do not bandage, wrap, or cover the area unless instructed by your doctor. Avoid applying Canesten Cream to the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. For optimal results, use Canesten Cream consistently.

Make sure to use it at the same times every day. Continue applying Canesten Cream until the full prescribed course is completed, even if symptoms improve after starting the treatment. Discontinuing the medication prematurely may allow the fungus to thrive, leading to a recurrence of the infection. Consult your doctor if your condition does not improve after 4 weeks of treatment or if it worsens at any point.

Possible side effects include: burning, stinging, swelling, irritation, redness, small pimple-like bumps, tenderness, or peeling of the treated skin. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist right away. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, it means they believe the benefits outweigh the potential risks of side effects.

Most individuals using Canesten Cream do not experience serious side effects. However, inform your doctor immediately if you encounter any severe but rare side effects such as blistering, oozing, or open sores. Although a severe allergic reaction to Canesten Cream is improbable, seek urgent medical assistance if it occurs. Signs of a serious allergic reaction can include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. This is not an exhaustive list of possible side effects.

Before using Canesten Cream, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, any other azole antifungals like Econazole, Ketoconazole, or Miconazole, or if you have any additional allergies. Canesten Cream may contain inactive components that could trigger allergic reactions or other issues. Speak with your pharmacist for further information. Before commencing treatment with Canesten Cream, share your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist. This medication should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary.

Canesten Cream can be harmful if ingested. If ingestion is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency department immediately.
